What do you mean by "high performance athleticwear"?

For one thing, high performance athleticwear is meant to be sweat in. Since staying dry is a key ingredient to staying comfortable, high performance athleticwear helps the wearer stay warm and dry in the cold, and cool and dry in the heat. It permits a full range of movement with a minimum amount of bulk or weight. As appropriate, it provides protection from the elements including rain, snow, wind, and sun. And, finally, it withstands repeated launderings.

What makes women's high performance athleticwear different from men's?

For one thing, we wear sport bras. And there are other significant anatomical differences. Consider running shorts, for example: A man's shorts would be square-shaped. A woman's, rectangular. Compared with men, women are generally broader in the hips, and narrower in the waist. Our rises (the distance between waist and crotch) are generally longer. Our arms are proportionately shorter. And our backs are narrower. A good fit is a prerequisite for comfort and freedom of movement. A good fit also looks a whole lot better.

Do you have a catalog?

How can I find a specific product?

By calling us at 1 800 763 6000, or e-mailing us, we can tell you if a retailer was shipped a particular item in the last 90 days.

When and why did the company get started?

Our "birth" occurred several decades ago: March 13, 1977. Nobody was making women's running clothes at the time. There was men's clothing, and there was "unisex", that's all. We were two twenty-something female distance runners who got tired of looking for clothes that fit us, so we decided to make them ourselves. Lots more detail.

Where is your clothing designed?

We do all our design and development in Chantilly, Virginia. Garments are wear-tested first by our staff. If we're still excited about the product after beating it up during workouts and laundering, it will then go to our field of wear-testers around the U.S. If it gets the approval of this broader group, it makes it into the line. Even after all this, a garment may not see the light of day if not enough of our retailers like the garment enough to order it.

Where is your clothing made?

Most of our products are manufactured outside the United States by people skilled in the specific operations needed to make a particular garment. We are sadly aware of the dreadful conditions that exist in many factories throughout the world, including the United States. We do not do business with them.

If I have ideas or suggestions for improving your products, do you want to hear them?

Yes. Definitely. We thrive on feedback. However, because we are a small staff immersed daily in developing, producing, and shipping product, we aren't always able to acknowledge all the correspondence we get. But we can assure you that it gets into the right hands and gets read. Contact us.

What is Title IX?

Title IX is federal legislation that was enacted by Congress on June 23, 1972. Title IX grew out of the women's civil rights movement of the late 1960's and early 1970's. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally-assisted education programs or activities. We can thank Title IX for the explosion of girls' and women's participation in sports. Just one year before the enactment of Title IX, in 1971, a Connecticut judge was allowed by law to disallow girls from competing on a boys' high school cross country team even though there was no girls' team at the school. And that same year, fewer than 300,000 high school girls played interscholastic sports. Today, that number is 2.4 million.
